About Vaggelis Gettos
Vaggelis Gettos is a multidisciplinary artist whose work integrates music, literature, theater, and media, driven by a deep commitment to cultural heritage and social justice. As a composer and performer, he leads the folk-rock group Idaion Project, blending Greek traditional music with global influences. His music, often intertwined with storytelling, has been featured in major festivals such as the Cyprus Rialto World Music Festival.
His artistic vision centers on storytelling and historical reflection. His poetry collections, The Tinder and Rinismata, explore themes of memory and identity, while his theater works, including The Last Confession of Nikos Koemtzis and TIFL, tackle social and political issues. His children’s books and graphic novels address environmental and cultural themes.
Gettos also engages with media and experimental film, producing radio shows and contributing to projects like De Profundis. His multidisciplinary approach allows him to create deeply immersive narratives that challenge conventions while preserving cultural narratives. Through his diverse artistic work, he remains a key figure in contemporary Greek and Cypriot cultural discourse.
My work
The experimental film “De Profundis” aligns with the themes of the “Artivism – Art for Change” open call by addressing sustainability, resilience, and innovation through art. As part of the FACE Project, which seeks to highlight artistic expressions of social and environmental transformation, the film presents a multidimensional exploration of endurance, change, and the relationship between humans and their environment.
Through its abstract, poetic approach, “De Profundis” conveys themes of resilience and sustainability by immersing the audience in an emotional and sensory experience. The film’s use of sound, visual composition, and narrative abstraction reflects the fragility of existence and the ways in which individuals and societies navigate crisis and transformation. By evoking a sense of impermanence and adaptation, it resonates with contemporary concerns about environmental degradation and the need for sustainable solutions. The aesthetic choices, including experimental cinematography and non-linear storytelling, reinforce a vision of resilience in an evolving world.
